25 Songs, 25 Days – Day 25

Day 25 – a song you could listen to all day without getting tired of. This is the perfect end to everyone’s favorite storm trooper’s music challenge!

When I started playing the violin I spent quite a bit of time browsing YouTube for interesting videos. On one such late-night search I came across Circa Paleo and The Kiss from the soundtrack of “Last of the Mohicans.” This is not that first video, but a much better version –

Jenny transcribed her version and offered it up free on her website so I have on occasion plinked around with it, but it’s beyond my abilities at this point in my fiddling career. More info about the score can be found here.

This song can be found in many variations on YouTube and some of my favorite versions are the ones with a split screen with one person playing each part –

For those of you who prefer your music more “classic rock,” Circa Paleo has something for you, too –

And from my new favorite TV show –

If you were to come over on a weekend afternoon you would likely hear a Circa Paleo CD playing in the background, I love them that much.

25 Songs, 25 Days – Day Twenty-Four

Day twenty-four – a song that you have danced to with your best friend.

Yeeeaaaaah. Still don’t dance. Not alone, not with other people. If by some miracle I was gifted with the ability to dance with grace and rhythm I would dance to this song –

Katzenjammer. Another talented group who met at music school in Oslo. They must put something in the water over there, or the atmosphere here in the States is not conducive to producing such talented bands. Or maybe we just like our music canned and routed through proper channels.

I’ve found many of these interesting groups and if you’re interested in hearing more, let me know in the comments and I’ll start posting some of my favorites. Maybe it can become a regular Friday Thing?

25 Songs, 25 Days – Day 23

Day 23 – a song you can’t stand to listen to.

Midnight in Harlem by the Tedeschi Trucks Band –

Know that I did not listen to this one before pasting it up here. The narc loved this song and played it nightly at very high volume, despite my asking him to turn it down. He played it at 0100 when I was trying to sleep. He called me over to his computer to look (once again) at how great the dude is at playing guitar. He used this song to torture me and even if it didn’t suck I would never listen to it willingly.

25 Songs, 25 Days – Day Twenty-Two

Day twenty-two – a song that someone has sung to you. Almost done! I hope you all appreciate these daily posts – I rarely stick to something for this long 🙂

No one has ever sung a song to me, but I with someone had sung this one to me when I started dating my first husband –

And my second husband –

And I would sing this one (among others) to the narc –

Share Your World – Week 20

Humpday, Week 20 and a new selection of questions from Cee of Cee’s Photography and her Share Your World challenge.

This week’s questions and answers:

If you could go back and visit any time period, what time would you travel to and why?

Just visit? I would love to watch history while it was being made to see how accurately the historians have reconstructed events. I would visit Henry VIII’s court and spy on his marriages to see if he was a narcissist or if his wives were as evil as he made them out to be. I would stow away aboard the Mayflower (there’s no chance I could die in the past, right?) and live with them during that critical first year in America. I would find out what Cleopatra really looked like, if Marie Antoinette was a spoiled child or a young woman powerless to escape her fate. I would fly with Amelia Earhart on her fateful last journey and witness the Crucifixion of Christ. Oh, there are so many places and times I would visit!

If you could have three wishes granted for you alone, what would they be?  This is a time for you to dream and have fun.

1. A long and healthy life filled with laughter and good times.

2. The resources to build a self-sufficient, secure homestead.

3. That Sabu would become a Good Dog sooner rather than later.

Wanting something to quench your thirst, what would you drink?

Tea, hot or iced, usually. Water if I know I’m getting dehydrated, pepsi if I’m snacking.

If you watch TV what are your favorite three television shows?

Gray’s Anatomy, Dexter and most recently Game of Thrones now that I’ve found a free source for internet viewing.

25 Songs, 25 Days – Day 21

Day 21 – your favorite song.

I don’t have a favorite song, really. I have lots of songs I love, but picking just one is impossible so I will highlight another band I love, the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Here’s Country Girl

And the first song of theirs I heard, Snowden’s Jig

I’ve been working on this one on the fiddle, but Rhiannon’s fiddle is cross tuned – a pain in the ass if you want to practice something else next. I love the haunting melody of this song!

Sadly, Rhiannon is the only original member of the Drops remaining and their sound has changed quite a bit, but I’m happy the group is staying true to its roots. Here are a couple of songs that showcase Rhiannon’s superb vocal talents –

The Confusion of Spotting a Narcissist

“Apologies are seldom, if ever given unless requested. Since they do not recognize that they are at fault, they do not spontaneously apologize, or the apology still blames you, “I’m sorry you got hurt”, for instance instead of, “I’m sorry I hurt you.”
The narc upbraided me for asking him to apologize for something early in the relationship. I learned that he was never to blame and I was undeserving of apologies, no matter what. If he did mouth the words, it was with shifting eyes, curled lip and a quick change of subject to something he could batter me with to re-gain the upper hand. Beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing!

Wendy Powell's Life Coaching

IMG_0583 “I’m sorry I was late, I was waiting for you to call. You said that you would call me when you wanted to be picked up.” This sentence sounds plausible, and to a normal person that might not be 100% sure that they are right all of the time; it would work as an explanation for lateness. Liars, by their very nature lie. Instead of saying the truth, which might be as simple and telling as, “I didn’t feel like going to get you at the time we agreed” this lie pops up with no effort.

Most of the behaviour of a narcissist is less than honest, not just the words that they speak. Narcissists have learned how to behave properly by paying attention to what society expects. They know to bring you gifts, when appropriate, for instance. They can devise ways of making themselves look considerate and caring and…

25 Songs, 25 Days – Day Twenty

Day Twenty – the last song alphabetically on your iPod.

Uncle Earl singing Willie Taylor from their album She Waits for Night is the last song on my MP3 player. I love this song! I’ve been trying to learn the fiddle part for some time now and the lyrics (another story about an errant sailor who gets what he deserves) amuse me every time I hear them. There are several versions of this song on the YouTubes but none of them are performed by Uncle Earl. Here’s a nice acapella version –

And here is another favorite so you can hear Uncle Earl –

And something a little quicker –

Sadly, this particular lineup no longer exists as several members are off doing solo work.

Here’s Abigail Washburn with well-known banjo player Bela Fleck –

Abigail is playing clawhammer style while Bela is picking this version.

And maybe y’all don’t know this about a big Hollywood star –

And because this is so funny and came up in the searches –

25 Songs, 25 Days – Day 19

Day 19 – the first song alphabetically on you iPod.

The first song on my cheapo-generic MP3 device is the intro to the album “Wishful Thinking”  by Hot Club of Cowtown, but since that’s not interesting, here’s my favorite song from the album –

I love the jazzy fiddle interspersed with clever lyrics of their songs. Easy to listen to, but surprises if you listen to the lyrics.

25 Songs, 25 Days – Day Eighteen

Day eighteen – a song that you love but rarely listen to.

There are many that would fit today’s theme, but in the interest of making you scratch your heads at my schizophrenic musical tastes, here’s an oldy from Garth Brooks, Ireland. I couldn’t find a YouTube version actually sung by Garth, but this one is pretty good –

I hear Garth is coming out of retirement. I wonder what the face of country music will look like after he remodels it yet again…

Being of Scotch/Irish decent, this song has always resonated with me, making the hair stand up on my arms every time I hear it. I’ve not traveled overseas yet, but someday I hope to see the Emerald Isle.
