And it just keeps coming…

08 Feb

I called the office yesterday and told them I wasn’t coming in – the roads were just too dangerous and the sidewalks weren’t much better, what with the crazy drivers sliding all over the place. I am so thankful I park off the street! The final tally from yesterday:

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAMaybe another half inch fell before it stopped for the night. The freezing rain started yesterday about 4 PM and now there’s a 1/2″ crust of ice over everything. Fun times!

Revy is not at all bothered by the snow, being an inside cat. In fact, I think he rather enjoys the fact that it’s so light outside, even at night. He spends hours in his perch looking out the back window:

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThe ducks are still around, although they aren’t walking to and fro as usual. The pond has a layer of ice on it but isn’t frozen like it was during the last Arctic Episode:

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAIt’s been a very quiet weekend. I made spaghetti sauce and cup after cup of tea while watching “Bones” on Netflix. How did I not know about this show? Haven’t gotten to the vacuuming yet, but have been working on a knitting project. The sound of icicles falling off the trailer is a little startling still.

Sabu is having a terrible day. She LOVES the snow but this ice thing is just not her idea of a good time. She’s heavy enough that she falls through the crust and she refuses to poop on top of the snow/ice. Finally found a sheltered spot under a tree and now she’s napping. This was the scene yesterday:

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAI took her outside while I shoveled snow off the patio and this was her reaction to me telling her it was time to come back inside. A light snow was falling, she had ice balls in her feet and lower legs, but she wanted to stay outside anyway. Silly dog. Felt like shit making her come inside, but what could I do?

All is well, warmer temps are on the way and this will all be gone by Monday, I’m sure.

How’s your weekend going? Have any weather-related tales to tell?

It does keep coming. We are running out of room to put it. The sub-zero temps don’t make it any easier. Another three inches fell today. People here in IL should know how to drive in it by now, but nope! Plenty of sliding through stop signs on a freakin 25 mph road. Really?

Oh, man! You got it horrible! The people who know how to drive in it are staying home because they know better! Saw quite a few people with chains on here today, but there’s always that one asshole dude who is racing around in his 4WD truck as if it’s a sunny Summer day. I hope he ends up in a ditch!

December we got about 6 feet of snow. Jan. we had a big thaw and so everything turned to ice. We had 6-8 inches of ice on our roads and they didn’t clean the roads all of Dec. and half way into Jan. It was bad. I hope it clears up for you soon!

Six feet!?! We got that one year when I was a kid. It shut everything down for like two weeks. I was so mad because I didn’t get to go to school 🙂 They don’t clean the roads here, either and I don’t know why. You can drive right by the “sand” yards where there’s gravel piled up 20 feet high but they can’t seem to get it onto the roads? And forget about plowing – I haven’t seen a plow the entire Winter. Hope your mess gets cleared up soon, too!

Yes it’s been crazy! They have finally done some cleaning up of the roads. It’s weird eh that they don’t where you are as well. We have no sidewalks in this town and two schools, so it’s really dangerous for all the kids around here too.
You didn’t like snow days you wanted to go to school?! Wow!

Having a good time staying in , but had to go out and get library movies and food after it warmed up and started raining—-however, so did everybody else!!! Only tragedy is stepping in a really deep puddle—sigh—-glad I have a dehumidifier!

At least your snow turned to warm rain fairly quickly – it’s been all day trying to thaw here and is now quite a mess. Surprisingly, the dehumidifier says we’re at 50% here, so it’s either broken or it’s really dry even with condensation on the windows…

We only have a few inches of snow here, but there is plenty of ice caked on top of it. Good times.

Starting to melt now and tree branches are breaking all over the place. Thankfully, I’m not under any of them!

The snow won’t stop falling here in Niagara Falls. It just won’t.

Surely July will come? Some distant day… 🙂
