Srsly?

05 Sep

We had some heavy thunderstorms roll through this afternoon. Actually, it’s still raining pretty hard at the moment. The lights have been flickering and I just discovered that my office computer does not have a battery backup/surge protector attached. Sigh.

I park in the back lot of my office building. When I worked here before my car was broken into twice, once the window was broken. The thief took $300 worth of rain gear and horse tack the first time, a pack of cigarettes the second. That’s right, they broke the window on my almost-new car to steal a pack of smokes.

Just went out to make sure my windows were up. Yup. My car was, once again, burgled. The thief took my Monster and rifled through everything, but there was nothing else in there of any value. I don’t lock it (to keep my windows intact) but I’ve finally learned my lesson about leaving anything that can be hocked inside the car.

This brings my personal count to four for the number of times my car has been robbed in this town.

Srsly? WTF is wrong with people? I drive a Chevy Aveo, fercryin’outloud! Nothing fancy, nothing clean and sparkly. Fuck. People suck.

There haven’t been any problems lately in the office parking lot, but as the weather at the coast gets wetter tweakers migrate back over here and start causing problems. Sigh.

these kinds of people never seem to be caught either 😦

Even if they’re caught, the consequences are really nothing at all. I lost a bunch of stuff that was expensive enough I can’t readily replace it, and some stuff that was totally useless to someone else, but that meant something to me, and there is no recourse.

Ugh, I drive a 20 year old mini van and it’s been broken into too many times to count. Usually in the middle of the night in my driveway. They would take loose change, as I have nothing else of value in it. Now I don’t even keep change in it. I lived across from a high school, figured it was kids most times.

Funny enough, they didn’t take the loose change in the ashtray. Whatever. You can bet it’s locked up now and will be at home, too.

People seem to be getting worse every minute. I live in a rural area that used to be low, almost no, crime; the local sheriff’s dept. now you’re lucky if you can say you haven’t been robbed.

What is up with people? Are they really that desperate, or are they just doing it because they can get away with it? Nothing has ever come of my police reports, no recovery of my stuff, just a lot of anger left over…

I really wan to believe in the best in people, but time and time again I’m proven wrong. I’m becoming quite jaded and cynical.

    GaH!
How about a sign on the windows saying “Don’t bother. It’s already been taken.”?

Yeah. That might be an invitation to slash the seats or something 😦

Argh. How annoying. I think I’d strip it down, leave nothing but the cushions and the steering wheel, and then always leave the windows down… Though, I like Guap’s idea too, I wouldn’t trust whoever keeps breaking in to be able to read a sign.

There’s very little left inside now – just a pair of rubber boots, the dog’s blanket, water bottle and bowl. I don’t even leave a rain jacket or extra leash in it anymore. I doubt anyone who breaks into cars reads signs 😦

That sucks. We had my expedition broke into several times. the alarm went of so they ran right away. It was like it was marked because of tinted windows. I sold it when gas was soaring sky high. I bought a Kia Soul and its never been touched.. Sorry that happened to you.

I love the Kia Soul! My Mom has one and I am so jealous. Glad yours hasn’t been bothered 🙂

I chose this little car because it’s good on gas and it’s the no-frills model – no CD player, no electronic anything. I thought it wouldn’t be such a magnet for thieves, but I guess I was wrong.

That is crazy!! I like the note idea. saying everything is gone you assholes.

I’m afraid that it would only lead to broken windows or slashed seats, neither of which I could afford to have replaced easily. Better to just lock myself and my possessions up to keep them from the assholes that abound in the world. Hard to ‘love thy neighbor’ when they like to break and steal.

That sucks. And makes a person suspect everyone. If they do get caught they only get a slap on the hand.

If it’s any consolation (& I know it won’t be much, at best) I’ve managed to have my car (literally) smashed open in London, Amsterdam, Paris & Red Bank, NJ. Each time I lost a rain coat, & each time it pissed down with rain as I discovered the damage/loss. 😡

Wow. You got me beat 🙂 To lose a rain coat and have it raining every time is the worst. I keep mine in my bag now, right next to my desk, never unattended because obviously there are people out there who are in desperate need of a rain coat. Strange. And sucky. My condolences. They aren’t cheap…

I’m sorry that really, really stinks. Whats sadder is that thieves do not realize how violated and angry that makes the victim feel. Through the comments I have noticed that rain coats seem to be a theme Maybe try attaching a cheap dollar store parka on the outside of the vehicle as bait 🙂
